Chandigarh, 16th November 2018 : When Le Corbusier was making this city, diggings at construction sites threw up evidence of ancient civilisation at this site. He was amazed to see that the grid concept that he was planning as an urban dwelling already existed in our ancient civilisation. Cities should be planned in such a way that there should be good mobility and good interaction between all stakeholders. This is how Chandigarh evolved as a city.
This was said by Municipal Commissioner Chandigarh Kamal Kishore Yadav, also CEO of Chandigarh Smart City as during the inaugural of second edition of Elets Chandigarh Smart City Conclave organised by Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Smart City Limited at Hotel Hyatt on Friday.
Aimed at knowledge sharing among the key decision-makers, the conclave served as a platform for intense deliberations and interactions among top-notch thought leaders, policymakers and industry stakeholders on various innovations being undertaken in Smart Cities across the country.
“Solar plants in 81 government schools, 14 government colleges, 8 water works of Chandigarh, 78 government residential buildings are a shining example of alternate energy projects that Chandigarh is doing. The aim is to reduce energy consumption for which we have launched the LED project of street lighting. 1.2 crore energy units we have saved through this,”said the Chandigarh Administrator and Governor Punjab VP Singh Badnore who addressed the Conclave in its valedictory session
“Chandigarh is ahead of other cities in smart concepts. No city can be as proud as Chandigarh is for Cycle tracks -- we are going to be the first in the country to achieve this. The project of public bike sharing is exciting and it will be last mile connectivity, “ said the Chandigarh Administrator and Governor Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Kishor Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, said, “ Chandigarh already has the wide roads, green cover, open spaces that other smart cities are aspiring for. We have to just add on more features and smart solutions and concepts which will take the city to a next level.”
Speaking on the occasion, Davesh Moudgil, Mayor, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, who inaugurated the day long conclave said, “Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL), the SPV (special purpose vehicle) formed to take all the key Smart City initiatives forward, has been making an all-out effort to take a big leap into the future. Taking cognizance of its development trajectory, the city calls for intense deliberations and building synergies that could offer win-win for all.”
As part of the mega congregation, a grand expo with pavilions showcasing technology innovations in integrated and smart urban infrastructure; green and inclusive mobility; smart waste recycling and management; well planned public utilities and citizen-centric services; and a host of other future-ready innovations useful for making cities livable and sustainable, was also organised.
A special issue of eGov magazine dedicated to citizen-centric and Smart City focussed initiatives of the Chandigarh city was also launched at the event.
Aimed at knowledge-sharing among key decision makers and bringing out some of the important recommendations to enhance the Smart City focused initiatives of Chandigarh City, a number of panel discussion sessions were held.
Some of the discussion topics included: eGovernance and Digital Initiatives for Safe & Secure Cities, Strengthening Civic Infrastructure for Better Tomorrow, Smart Connectivity for Smart Cities.
Among the notable luminaries to have graced the mega conclave included: Sanyam Aggarwal, CEO Ludhiana Smart City Limited; Vikramjit Singh, Senior Country Officer, International Finance Corporation; Avneet Ghanara - Commercial and Marketing Head, Indian Oil-Adani Gas; Andrew Ayre, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chandigarh; Dr Nagamani Bora, Programme leader Biotechnology, University of Nottingham; Sanjay Tarat, Asset Head, Indion Oil-Adani Gas, among others.
