Kathak Recital by Saumya Shukla, based on selective Miniature Paintings from the Museum Collection

Chandigarh, 20th December 2018: As part of the commemoration of fifty years, the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh is celebrating its Indian miniature painting collection through a unique event where Saumya Shukla, an exponent of Kathak will be presenting through her narrative dance, the close connection between the miniature painting and Kathak. Invocation of Ganesha, love play of Radha-Krishna, celebrating the monsoon, dance at the court, will be some themes she will dwell upon to bring alive the miniature art tradition.  
Saumya began her dance under the guidance of her guru Nrityashri Alaknanda, a renowned Kathak dancer and a disciple of Guru Munna Lal Shukla and Pandit Birju Maharaj.  She holds a graduation degree from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. She is a senior dancer in her Guru’s dance troupe, ‘Alaknanda Sanskriti’ and has travelled with her extensively in India, Singapore, Poland, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina for performances in her choreographies. She has also given solo performances at various venues in India and abroad. Saumya was also selected by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations as a Kathak Dance Teacher and Performer for the Amrita SherGil Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Budapest, Hungary where she was posted from February 2016 to July 2018.
The recital will be held at the museum auditorium, Sector 10 on 22nd December at 5 pm.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
