Chandigarh, 3rd December 2018: In supersession of Chandigarh Administration, notification issued vide No. H-III(7)-2018/10101, dated 06.7.2018 by Transport Department and in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 129 read with provision of clause (41) of Section 2 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh is pleased to Substitute Rule 193 of Chandigarh Motor Vehicle Rules, 1990 (as amended from time to time) by the Rule as below: -
“193 Use of protective headgear: - Every person driving or riding a Motor Cycle of any class or description shall wear a protective headgear approved by the Bureau of India Standards from time to time provided that in addition to the person exempted under the provision of Section 129, persons who are medically advised by P.M.O. not to wear such a headgear in case exempted by the District Magistrate shall not be required to wear a headgear and it shall be optional for a Sikh women to wear the protective gear while driving or riding pillion on a two wheeler on road in Chandigarh.”
