Secretary Social Welfare discusses issues of Senior Citizens in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 13th December 2018: A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Sh.B.L. Sharma, Secretary Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration with Sh. R K Garg, Founder President, Second Innings association (NGO) and senior citizens to discuss the issues/ demands raised by Second Innings Association NGO working for the welfare of the Senior Citizens.  

The main demands tabled by the NGO were – enrolling of volunteers who want to contribute for the welfare of Senior Citizens; ensuring police verification of all the interested volunteers; provide space in community centres so that they can discuss their problems; Inculcating role of NSS, Social Work and Human Rights to help Senior Citizens on regular basis as a part of their curriculum; Designate a Nodal Officer in Social Welfare Department to address the problems of Senior Citizens; Issuance of Smart Card(for multiple use); functionalize the existing helpline of women and children for senior citizens; ensure dedicated parking spaces in markets and concessional parking passes to senior citizens and special windows in public dealing offices and hospitals; dedicated police stations for dealing with cases relating to Senior Citizens and Senior Citizen welfare committee.

All these demands were discussed in detail during the meeting and it was decided that another meeting will be held with the Police Department regarding enrolment and verification of volunteers, setting up of dedicated Police station with whatsapp service. 

Director Social Welfare apprised that Women and Child Helpline 181 has already been working for Senior Citizens. It was also ensured that a dedicated Nodal Officer will be appointed in the Social Welfare Department.  

It was ensured by the Secretary Social Welfare that all the necessary arrangements will be made to uplift the status of Senior Citizens in Chandigarh. He also conveyed that prompt action will be taken in this regard by taking meeting with all the line departments.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
