'National Girl Child Day' Celebrations held in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 24th January, 2019: The Health Department, U.T Chandigarh today celebrated the National Girl Child Day in the village Palsora by sensitizing the public with the Street Play by the troupe full of enthusiasm. A Street Play was organized in the community to create mass awareness regarding ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’.
Health talks regarding importance of Health & Hygiene were also organized in Civil Dispensaries during the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week. Save the Girl Child was the focus area during the celebrations. Notebooks and pens with the message of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao were distributed to the children in the village. 
National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January to promote the position of girl's in the society and make their living better. National Girl Child Day was first initiated in 2008. The main objective behind it is to highlight the rights of girl child to promote awareness, importance of education, health and nutrition. The NFHS 4 has given the sex ratio at birth as 981 girls per thousand males for Chandigarh.
