Adviser meets children with special educational needs at SOREM

Chandigarh, 20th February, 2019: The Adviser to the Administrator, U.T Chandigarh, Sh. Manoj Parida, IAS, as the Chairman of the Governing Council (officer bearers) of SOREM, today visited the School for Special Children at Sector 36, Chandigarh. SOREM is an NGO, in the service of people with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Intellectual Disability, which began in 1987 and has evolved continuously.
Sh. Parida on his visit reviewed the various facilities provided at the school and interacted with the special children. Presently there are 150 plus special children undergoing various training with the school namely vocational training on embroidery, stitching, Block Printing, Paper Bag, Jewellery, Candle, Masala and Chocolate, along with Rehab Therapies of Physio, Sensory Integration, Computer Training, Speech, Vocal & Instrumental Music, Occupational and Yoga. Each year the students of SOREM participate at State, National and International level Summer & Winter Special Olympics & Sports Meet.
Sh. Parida during the visit shared, “Every child has the ability to learn, but the way children learn and how much knowledge they can absorb can vary considerably, especially for a child with special needs. I am highly impressed with the all-round development being provided to these special children at SOREM and congratulate the faculty and staff of this school for their consistent efforts in making these children self sufficient.    
Based on the research by Harvard School of Medicine, USA, the school has built Labyrinth for a meditative walk on various paths for developing mind-motor coordination and concentration by walking on different textures of the path. Under the Global Autism Project, the team of Board Certified Behavior Analyst Consultants, visits the school thrice a year and provide professional development for the staff of SOREM, parents, administrators and community members.
Others present during the visit were Mr. R.K. Saboo, Vice-Chairman, SOREM, Mrs. Promila Chandra Mohan, Honorary Secretary, SOREM and faculty of the school.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. As part of this campaign, IMA has designed stickers with the message “Vote for a healthy democracy”, which will be stuck on all the prescriptions of patients.
