Excise & Taxation Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh holds meeting with owners of liquor vends and distilleries

Chandigarh, 26th February, 2019: A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Excise & Taxation Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh with the retail sale liquor licenses to discern their grievances and suggestions regarding the new Excise Policy for the year 2019-20. 

Major suggestions given by the licensees were with regard to maintaining the minimum retail sale price of the liquor fixed by the Department, rationalization of the excise duties & other levies and fixation of the minimum price of  imported foreign liquor to prevent under cutting of prices of Bio-Brands of liquor and approval of labels well in time so that supply of liquor becomes normal from the first day of the Policy Year 2019-20.

Further to this, a meeting was also held with the owners of bottling plants in Chandigarh to understand their concerns and inviting suggestions with regard to the Excise Policy for the year 2019-20. Recommendations regarding, improvement of the online system of the department, lowering of the franchise fee, fixation of Country Liquor quota without conversion were discussed in detail. Recommendations regarding improvement of the online system of the department, lowering of franchise fee and fixation of Country Liquor quota without conversion were discussed in detail.  

Sh. Mandip Singh Brar concluded the meeting by directing liquor licensees and owners of distilleries & bottling plants to comply with the Excise Laws in totality, as well as the directions of the Election Commission of India with regard to sale of liquor in Chandigarh. Sh. Brar further indicated that stern departmental action will be taken against those indulging in illegal sale of liquor.     

Among those present during the meeting were Sh. R.K. Popli, PCS, Additional Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Sh. R.K. Chaudhary, AETC and other officials of the department.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote".
