Exemption from the payment of Road Tax in respect of the vehicles owned and being operated for Persons with Disabilities

Chandigarh, 7th February 2019: In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 13 of Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1924 as in force in the Union Territory of Chandigarh read with the notification No. G.S.R. 366 (E), dated 15.6.2006 issued by Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs and all the other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, is pleased to grant exemption from  the payment of Road Tax in respect of the vehicles owned and being operated for Persons with Disabilities by the Social Welfare Institutions/NGOs within the Union Territory, Chandigarh in order to promote public interest, subject to the condition that such Institutions/NGOs are duly registered as per the provision of Section 51 of Right to Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 with the Department of Social Welfare, U.T., Chandigarh. A case for exemption to a vehicle shall be approved by the Secretary (Transport), Chandigarh Administration (on case to case basis) by a specific order in respect of such vehicle (s) upon being satisfied that the vehicle (s) is/are being used for the intended purpose either by obtaining a report from the Social Welfare Department or otherwise.
