Review meeting held regarding General Elections to Lok Sabha-2019


Chandigarh, 21st February, 2019: Review meetings were held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Additional Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, U.T. Chandigarh, with the representatives of Political Parties, in charges of cinema halls and cable operators in Chandigarh. The agenda of the meetings was to enlighten the gathering about the special camps which will be organised on 23rd & 24th February, 2019 by the Election Commission in each polling station.
The aim of these special camps is to facilitate all unregistered, eligible persons to get their names registered in the electoral rolls and correction or verification of the details of registered voters names and address, so that the correct and updated information can be added in each voters Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) and no eligible voter is deprived of voting during the General Elections to Lok Sabha-2019. All concerned were requested to create maximum awareness regarding this special campaign. The in charges of cinema halls and cable operators were asked to play slides/strips during prime time shows and movies, so that maximum people get informed regarding the special camps being conducted in the city on 23rd & 24th February, 2019.
Sh. Mandip Singh Brar during the meeting said, “Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be present during the camps with the copies of final electoral rolls of 2019. A copy of the electoral role will be available in the polling station so that electors can check their names in the rolls. Additionally, the electoral rolls shall also be read out publically during the camp to facilitate illiterate voters. All BLO’s shall keep copies of Forms 6, 7, 8 and 8A with them to facilitate filling up of forms by people. Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) is only the identification document and does not guarantee if a person’s name is in the electoral roll of the concerned polling station. EPIC holders must also check their names in electoral rolls and fill up Form 6 if their name does not exist in the roll.”
The representatives were further informed regarding the efforts being undertaken by the Chandigarh Administration for maximum citizen participation namely Enrollment of PwD electors, Multi-Media communication for awareness, setting up of as many polling stations for the convenience of people, re-verification of existing polling stations, Chandigarh District Contact Centre with Toll Free No. 1950 and Electoral Literacy Clubs to provide timely and accurate election related information to citizens.
Among those present during the meeting were Sh. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Joint C.E.O-cum-SDM (East), Ms. Nazuk Kumar, IAS, SDM (Central), Smt. Navjot Kaur, PCS, Director Social Welfare, Sh. Jagjit Singh, PCS, Deputy C.E.O-cum-Controller Printing & Stationary, U.T. Chandigarh, Ms. Radhika Singh, HCS, Director Rural Development and Panchayat and officers of the Election Department.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
