Administrator inaugurates the conference hall at State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission & Fora, U.T., Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 6th March, 2019: The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh. V. P. Singh Badnore today inaugurated the conference hall, which is housed in the premises of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission & Fora, U.T., Chandigarh.
            Congratulating the president and members of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Sh. Badnore said that the commission is doing remarkable work in to making people aware of their rights as consumers, thereby helping them take proper decisions. He further stated that the President of the Commission Mr. Justice Jasbir Singh (Retd.) has a positive attitude towards his work and has made an immense contribution towards inculcating the core values of justice, discipline, commitment and selfless service among the members of the commission.
            Addressing the gathering, , Mr. Justice Jasbir Singh (Retd.) thanked the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh and Chandigarh Administration for computerizing the working of the State Commission as well as District Fora and installing a solar energy generation system. Further for the convenience of the consumers, a single window facility has been created for enquiry and receipt of consumer complaints at the entrance of the office on the ground floor. 
              Justice Jasbir Singh (Retd.) also apprised that the facility of a conference hall, housed in the premises of the State Commission & District Fora, U.T., Chandigarh, is the maiden one at the national level and the poor people and other viz. consumers etc. would be immensely benefitted. Worth mentioning that 21722 cases have been disposed of by the State Commission and 32864 & 26469 cases have been disposed of by District Forums I & II respectively, thereby having disposal of over 98% since their inception.
             The conference hall is one of its kinds, which would host conferences that would enlighten about the rights of poor consumers to have legal aid for the conduct of their consumer complaints before the District Fora as well as the State Commission to further advance the cause of consumer Protection Act, 1986. Conferences would also be held for the enlightenment of the consumer, businessmen, law students, Panchayat members etc. apprising them about the consumer rights, duties of traders, manufacturers and service providers so that there is no exploitation of the consumers at the hands of the traders.
         The inauguration was done in the presence of Hon’ble Justice Jasbir Singh (Retd.), President, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, U.T., Chandigarh; Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator; Sh. Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Secretary, Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs; Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner & Director, Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Presidents of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums I & II, U.T., Chandigarh.
