Launch of “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 15th March, 2019: The Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Association of Allopathic Doctors today launched a first-of-its-kind campaign to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh on 19th May, 2019. The launch took place in the presence of Deputy Commissioner cum Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar. As part of this campaign, IMA has designed stickers with the message “Vote for a healthy democracy”, which will be stuck on all the prescriptions of patients. 

To promote the message of “Voting is a must for Healthy Democracy” a stamp was also launched by the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, in the presence of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, DC Chandigarh, which will be stamped on OPD cards of all the patients of the hospital and its allied dispensaries, including the Civil Hospital, Manimajra, Civil Hospital, Sector 22, and Civil Hospital, Sector 45.  

Sh. Brar appreciated the initiative taken up by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that our target for the current elections is to ensure maximum voter turnout in the city. Chandigarh with its high literacy rate and aware citizens should set an example for the country in terms of people’s participation in this celebration of democracy.”

Dr. Neeraj Kumar, President IMA said, “It is the duty of each one of us to not only vote but also motivate others. During these elections, city doctors have decided to take the lead in using their influence and good will to urge people to use their right to vote. We have designed colorful stickers which will be pasted on patient files and prescription slips. In addition to this, posters will be displayed in clinics and hospitals and messages will be shared by doctors and hospitals on their websites. An awareness session will be also organized by IMA for its members and their families to demonstrate functioning and proper usage of EVM machine and VVPAT.
