Special electoral camp organised at DAV College, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, 2nd March, 2019: As a part of the ongoing Election Commission’s nation-wide awareness campaign “Systematic Voters Education & Electoral Participation” (SVEEP), the Election Department Chandigarh today organized a special awareness camp at DAV College, sector-10, Chandigarh.

A large number of students including 1st time voters, visited the camp, where block level officers (BLOs) acquainted them with complete information regarding the use of EVMs and other machines related to the electoral process. Live demo of EVMs/VVPATs was done by the representatives of Election Department to explain the features and functioning of the machines used during electoral process. Students through mock polling cleared their doubts related to voting, especially about VVPAT, which is a new component introduced and added in the electoral process by the Election Commission of India. With the help of VVPAT, the voter shall be able to check and verify the authenticity of the vote poled by him/her to the intended candidate as the machine will indicate the same and maintain the record for the reference for the election staff for official use.

A Toll-free dedicated helpline number 1950 is also functional to help new, existing and illiterate voters, thereby ensuring maximum participation by citizens in the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha-2019 and contribute to the democracy. Another special camp of same kind will be organized tomorrow at Punjab University, Chandigarh.
