Chandigarh records 70.62% Voter Turnout

Chandigarh, 20th May 2019: Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency recorded 70.62% voter turnout with Male participation of 70.42% and female participation of 70.83 % on the day of polling i.e. 19th May 2019. 
The highest voter turnout of 85.41% was seen at Polling Station Government Model High School, Sector 25, and Government Model School (SMART), Sector 53. 84.59 % was recorded at Anganwadi Building No 2, Maloya Colony, 84.52 at Government High School, Maloya Colony, 84.22 % at Anganwadi Composit Building No 4, Near Community Center, Dadu Majra Colony.  Government Model High School Pocket No 8, Indira Colony, Manimajra (83.64%), Government Senior Secondary School, Dadumajra Colony(83.44 %), (83.32%) RIMT School Manimajra polling stations also saw voter turnout on a higher side.

However, some polling stations recorded low voter turnout like Government High School, Sector 31 C (47.05%), Government High School Sector 47 (50.58%), Government Model High School, New Building Sector 26 (51.17%), Government Model Senior Secondary School, sector 20 B (51.79%), Kids are Kids School, Sector 42 C (52.21%), Government Model High School, Sector 43 A  (53.76%) and Government Model High School Sector 54 (55.09%). Out of 597 polling stations, 75 polling stations at 22 locations were made the Model Polling stations. This is to report that all the 597 polling stations were equipped with all the Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) and improved Queue Management System as developed by the NIC Chandigarh. 

Three Polling stations managed by all Women Polling Party i.e. MCM DAV COLLEGE SECTOR 36, CARMEL CONVENT SCHOOL SECTOR 9, and NEW PUBLIC SCHOOL SECTOR 18. For the first time as a unique initiative by the Election Department of Chandigarh for including the employees of the persons with disability, Govt Model Sr Sec School Sector 10 Polling station was manned by all PwD employees of the UT Administration. 

To make elections accessible for all, pick and drop facility was availed by 41 persons with disability who called/registered at the toll free number 1950, and arrangement of wheelchair and prioritize access was provided to all such voters. More than 1200 NSS volunteers deputed at the polling stations to assist the aged and Persons with Disability voters and their humanitarian contributions to the "Desh ka Mahatyohaar" were appreciated by the beneficiaries at large.

Besides the deployment of 4,805 police personnel, 5 company of CAPF were also deployed by the Chandigarh Police administration to ensure the safety and security during the polling process and to instill confidence in the voters Senior Officers of the Police were themselves in the field during the voting time.

No cases of booth capturing, Violence and law and order were recorded, and all the diaries of presiding officers were also thoroughly scrutinized and no discrepancies were found. Overall a peaceful, free and fair election was conducted by the Election Department of UT Chandigarh with the active support and coordination of Political Parties, Contesting Candidates, Media, Press and the Electors of the city beautiful.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
