Health Department, Chandigarh starts orientation of health functionaries on Rotavirus vaccine


Chandigarh, 27th June, 2019: Training of Health Functionaries on Rotavirus vaccine has been started today at State Institute of Health & Family Welfare, Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh. The participants of the training were Medical Officers, LHVs and ANMs. Training of zone one and two has been completed today with station sessions where the participants were divided into 4 groups of equal members to make the sessions more interactive.

 Health Department, UT Chandigarh is going to introduce Rotavirus vaccine (RVV) in Routine Immunization Schedule from July, 2019 onwards. Rotavirus vaccine will be provided free of cost under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). It has been in use by private practitioners for several years. Rotavirus is a highly contagious virus and makes thousands of babies and young children sick every year. Vaccination is the only specific intervention strategy for protection from Rota virus infection. 

It is given orally to infants in a three – dose schedule at 6, 10 and 14 weeks of age. The vaccine will be co-administered with other vaccines as per the immunization schedule.  Rotavirus vaccine has been included in National Immunization Programme of 96 countries. It is being expanded throughout the country in a phased manner. The Rotavirus vaccine has been rolled out in 11 states in a phased manner and now it is being expanded to the remaining 25 states and union territories including Chandigarh. The Rotavirus vaccine protects 9 out of 10 children from getting severe illness caused by rotavirus. Rotavirus accounts for 40% of hospitalization due to diarrhea amongst children in India.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
