“World blood donor day celebrated at Govt Multi Specialty Hospital Sector 16, Chandigarh"

Chandigarh, 14th June, 2019:World blood donor day  is celebrated each year on 14th June to thank voluntary non-remunerated blood donors for their life saving gift of blood and to raise the awareness of the need for regular blood donation to ensure quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products for the patients in need. The  World Health Organization (WHO)  theme for this year is “SAFE BLOOD FOR ALL”. Voluntary blood donors are the cornerstone for safe blood so healthy donors practicing safe habits are the need of the hour. To provide safe, affordable and timely supply of quality assured blood is a key component of universal health coverage and effective health systems. 


The World Blood Donor Day was celebrated today at Govt Multi Specialty Hospital Sector 16, Chandigarh by organizing an in house voluntary blood donation camp. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. G Dewan, Director Health Services, U.T, Chandigarh.  Dr. G Dewan emphasized the need for regular non remunerated blood donors and also motivated young students to donate blood. The lives of many patients suffering from severe anemia, cancer, Thallasaemia, accidents, obstetric patients etc is dependent on safe blood. The regular donors were honored and thanked for their invaluable gift of life.  The need for committed, regular and safe donors and community participation for holding regular blood donation camps to maintain adequate supply of blood was highlighted. 


To raise awareness for safe blood, IEC material was released by the Director Health Services. The Medical Superintendent Dr. V.K Nagpal, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Honney Sawhney, also graced the occasion and encouraged the donors. Staff members of GMSH-16 enthusiastically participated in the camp and120 units were collected for the needy patients.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
