73rd Independence Day Celebrations


Chandigarh, 15 August, 2019: Chandigarh Administration today celebrated the 73rd Independence Day at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh Hon’ble Sh.V.P.Badnore, was the chief guest of the occasion. The Administrator unfurled the National Flag and took salute from the various contingents of Police and NCC Cadets participating in the Independence Day Parade.

While addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Governor Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh.V.P.Badnore remembered the martyrs and paid homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our Independence. Highlighting the key achievements of Chandigarh Administration, Sh.V.P.Badnore appreciated the hard work and efforts of the officers for achieving success in diverse projects initiated for the betterment of the City.

Hon’ble Governor Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh awarded the commendation certificates to 21 employees of the Chandigarh Administration and general public for rendering outstanding services in the field of Public services, Art and Culture, Social Services and Sports. 4 Police personnel were also conferred President’s Police Medal and 13 Police personnel were conferred for Administrator’s Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious services. Cultural programme presented by the students of different schools was another highlight of the event.

Chandigarh  Police IRB(Female) bagged the overall best turn award in the parade. In Military forces and Police category, the first prize was bagged by Chandigarh Police IRB (Female), whereas Punjab Police got second and Chandigarh Police (Male)came third. In NCC contingents, Boys Army Wing bagged the first position, Girls Army wing came second and Naval wing came third. In the category of Home Guard/Fire Brigade/Civil Defence, Chandigarh Home Guard received the first prize, Chandigarh Fire Services second and Chandigarh Civil Defence got the third position.

In another category of  NSS Boys of Sri Guru Harkishan Sr.Sec.School, Sector-40 got first position, NSS PLATOON, Punjab University got second position and NSS Boys, GMSSS-Sector 38 got third position for scouts and guides.

 In School Band category, Institute of Blind,Sector-26 came first whereas GMSSS-10 got second position and Moti Ram Arya Sr. Sec School, Sector-27 got third position.
In School student’s category, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School-MHC, Manimajra came first whereas St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector-4 got second position and GMSSS-23 got third position. Ryan International School- 49 got the Consolation prize for the same.

Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to Administrator, Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Home Secretary, Sh. Ajoy Kumar Sinha, IAS, Finance Secretary, Mandeep Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration and Police along with the residents of the city were present during the function.
