Deputy Commissioner holds meeting to put an end to Child Beggary in Chandigarh


Chandigarh, 8th August 2019: A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner to discuss the issue of child beggary in the city and to discuss measures to put an end to this.

Child beggary is a major issue, as millions of children are forced into this worrisome menace. With an aim to end the abusive tradition of forcing the child to beg and to completely eradicate child begging from the city, the Deputy Commissioner has directed all the officials to identify the spots where child begging is more prevalent.

A special education drive starting tomorrow will be carried out till 15th August 2019 wherein the SDM’s with other team members will ensure that proper awareness is given to the parents and other involved in pushing the child towards begging.

After the drive, strict action will be taken against the handlers and other still involved in the running the racket of child begging.

The rescue missions, the counseling, the rehabilitation processes will also be conducted for the children forced into begging.
