Meeting regarding issues related Inter- State Smuggling of liquor held under Adviser to the Administrator


Chandigarh, 22nd  August 2019: The Administrator, Union Territory Chandigarh has constitute a committee to look into the menace of inter-state smuggling of liquor. A meeting of the Committee was held today with the Advisor to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh to discuss and deliberate on the issues relating to Inter- State Smuggling of liquor.Sh. M.P.Singh, IAS,Additional Chief Secretary , Punjab and Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal, IAS,Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana attended the meeting as special invitees.

All the members of the Committee deliberated in detail on the issues and finalized:
1.    That there is a need to harmonize the excise duty structure and rationalize the price difference among all the member states/UT and all the relevantissues will be taken care of at the time of framing the Excise Policy for the coming year.
2.    The enforcement agencies of the States and UT will be strengthened to plug the smuggling of liquor and strict action will be taken against the person involved in the smuggling.
3.    The Committee has finalized that there will be two Joint Action Committees, one at the level of AETCs and second at the level of Senior Officers of the States/UT. The AETCs of all the three States/UT district in-charges of Excise (Chandigarh, Panchkula & Mohali)will meet once in every month together to stop smuggling of liquor by sharing of information. The Joint Action Committee at Senior Officers level will meet on quarterly basis.
