State Level Function On FIT INDIA MOVEMENT Organized on National Sports Day: Administrator Meets Officials make Chandigarh Fit and Healthy
Chandigarh, 29th
August 2019: On the National Sports Day, the official launch of “FIT
INDIA MOVEMENT” was made today by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra
Modi. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is the nodal ministry for this
campaign. In this connection, state level function was organised by the
Education & Sports Department of Chandigarh at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18,
Chandigarh. Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator UT, Chandigarh, Shri
V.P.Singh Badnore was the Chief Guest at the occasion.
A live telecast
of launching of Fit India Movement by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri
Narendra Modi was observed by students of schools, sportspersons and others
officials at different locations of Chandigarh. Following the footsteps of
Hon’ble Prime Minister, theFIT India Movement was launched in a huge way in all
the 121 Govt. & Aided Schools, 74 Private Schools and 16 Colleges. The
Sports enthusiasts and students of various educational institutions also took
pledge to incorporate “FIT INDIA MOVEMENT” in their daily lifestyle.
During the state
level function, Hon’ble Governor felicitated top ranking Sports Persons as well
as school students of Chandigarh. This event was made more enthusiastic and
lively with gymnastic performance by students of GMHS-43 Chandigarh.
To promote the
culture of sports and to provide resorces for a fit and healthy Chandigarh, the
Administrator held a meeting in the presence of Adviser to the Administrator
with senior officials of Administration.
He emphasized
on physical fitness including Physical, Sports and Yoga
activities as well as wellness of citizens of Chandigarh . He
also stressed that the Yoga schedule of 20 minutes may be included during
morning assembly of all schools.
During the
meeting, Secretary Education explained that one compulsory period of physical
education will be started for all students. Beyond this, 125 physical education
teachers of Govt. schools will be imparted training under refresher course for
Yoga so that they can impart yoga training to all the students.
Secretary Sports
further elaborated that all the sports complexes of the department will be
available for students and general public of Chandigarh. A Women festival
for women upto the age group of 35 years will be organised to augment general
health and well being of all the women. An indigenous rural sports tournament
in context of Fit India Movement will be also organised by the Sports
Department.
To ensure the
success of this campaign in the City Beautiful and to promote healthy
lifestyle, the Municipal Corporation will install more open air Gyms in its
parks so that citizens can utilize these for daily exercise. Similarly emphasis
will be laid on promotion of Yoga in parks and at Sukhna lake in coordination
with the local NGOs and Associations.
The
Administrator has also directed Education and Sports Department to encourage
Sports aming schools students and to open sports complexes with high end sports
facilities nearby all schools of the city which can be utilized by
students during school hours.
The massive
campaign will also also include cyclothons and marathons to promote fitness
among residents of Chandigarh. It has been decided that Chandigarh Police will
start a campaign for making the police personal more fit so that they can
perform their duties in a befitting manner.
Education
Department has ensured that a fitness competition will be organized at
different schools and awards will be given under the “best school in fitness
category”. Administration also plans to arrange physical and mental wellness
modules for Senior Citizens and in all Special Homes under the Department of
Social Welfare, Chandigarh.
Counting the
impressive contribution of various Sport Associations in promotion of Sports in
Chandigarh, it has been decided that all Sports Association will organise a
special drive for promotion of sports and creating awareness among the
residents of Chandigarh.
