 UT Chandigarh Honoured with 04 National Award under POSHAN Abhiyaan


Chandigarh, 23rd August, 2019: The City Beautiful has been awarded with 04 National Level Awards by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, New Delhi for exemplary performance and successful rollout of the POSHAN Abhiyaan. POSHAN Abhiyaan "India's flagship programme- was launched by the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 8th March 2018 to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anemia, low birth weight by 2%, to 3% per annum respectively and to intensify awareness generation on the importance of nutrition for good health.

The  Ministry  of  Women  and  Child  Development  organized  the  Incentive BasedAwards Ceremony at National Level on 23rd August, 2019 at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi.


U.T. Chandigarh has bagged 1st Position in the following two categories:-

The Department of Social welfare Chandigarh Administration under the able guidance of Secretary Social Welfare, Sh. B.L. Sharma, lAS and Director Social Welfare, Smt. Navjot Kaur, PCS in convergence with line departments implemented POSHAN Abhiyaan with great enthusiasm and made it a Jan Andolan. Awareness programmes on all the Themes prescribed under POSHAN Abhiyaan were conducted throughout UT Chandigarh. Last year POSHAN Maah was celebrated from 01st September, 2018 to 30th September, 2018. Later POSHAN Pakhwada was celebrated from 08th March, 2019 to 23rd March, 2019. More than 25000 activities were conducted with participation of more than 10 lakhs persons during POSHAN Maah and more than 5 lakhs in POSHAN Pakhwada which resulted in proper Education and Awareness about good Nutrition and Health to the targeted beneficiaries in U.T. Chandigarh.


Last year Chandigarh was given the status of "Best U.T. in the Country" and was awarded with eight awards by the Ministry of Women & Child Development at POSHAN Maah Award Ceremony, organized as part of the Rashtriya POSHAN Maah under POSHAN Abhiyaan, in New Delhi on 10th October, 2018. Chandigarh received two Awards at National level under the category "Best Social Media Campaign" and "Maximum Reach Across All Themes". Besides this six awards were given under Block level and Individual Excellence category to the field staff.


U.T. Chandigarh has been the first U.T. in the country to implement Real Time Monitoring of Data of beneficiaries of all Anganwadi Centres in Chandigarh. ICDS-Common Application Software (CAS) has been successfully implemented for this monitoring in all the Anganwadi Centres. Growth Monitoring Devices i.e. Infantometer, Stadiometer, Infant Weighing Scales and Adult Weighing Scales have been procured to monitor Height and Weight of all the beneficiaries at the Anganwadi Centres. For real time entries of the data, 496 Smart Phones have been procured and distributed to all the Anganwadi Workers, Lady Supervisors and Block Level Help Desk.

The aim of this program is to reach every household with the message of good nutrition so as to reduce malnutrition, stunting, wasting, Anaemia by ensuring regular Antenatal & Postnatal Checkups. U.T. Chandigarh in convergence with all the line departments will ensure holistic development for children, Adolescent Girls, Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers by ensuring Complete Immunization, 100% institutional deliveries, Exclusive Breastfeeding, Regular Home Visits etc.
