Chandigarh Administration to ensure selling of Onion on “No Profit No Loss Basis” – V.P. Singh Badnore


Chandigarh, 25th September, 2019:  The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore today directed the Chandigarh Administration to ensure selling of Onions on "No Profit No Loss Basis".

 Addressing a meeting of senior officers of Chandigarh Administration, the Governor expressed concern over the high prices of onions. Shri Badnore instructed the Food and Supplies Department to purchase onions on whole sale price and sold on No Profit No Loss Basis. People will get some relief from this initiative of the Administration, he added.

 Shri Badnore also asked the officers of the Food and Supply Department to evolve five clusters at Mauli Jagran, Dhanas, Maloya, Ram Darbar and Manimajra Community Centres where the Counters will be set up from tomorrow for the hassel free supply of onions. He asked them to make required announcement to create awareness among the general public about this imitative of the Administration. This will continue till the prices of onions come down, he said.

  The Administrator also directed the SDMs, SHOs, Food Supply Inspector, Mandi Supervisor and Marketing Supervisor to check the storage of onion in Chandigarh. He has also asked the officers concerned to maintain a record of arrival of onions and their retail and whole sale market rates.

  Meanwhile, the Governor has made an appeal to the public to avoid panic buying and storing of onions at their respective places and assured them that in the coming days the Chandigarh Administration would be able to control the demand and supply of not only of onions but other essential commodities also.

 The meeting was attended by the Adviser to Administrator, Shri Manoj Parida, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr. J.M. Balamurugan, Home Secretary, Mr. Arun Gupta, Finance Secretary, Mr. Ajoy K. Sinha and Secretary Food and Supply Department, Mr. Vinod P Kavle.
