Chandigarh Inter- School Sports meet for boys and Girls (Under-14 years) by Sports Department, Chandigarh begins today


Chandigarh, 2 September,2019:Chandigarh Inter- School Sports meet started today at Sports Complex, Sector-42, Chandigarh. Hon’ble Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor Punjab-cum-Administrator, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief guest at the opening ceremony . 

The Administrator appreciated the efforts of Sports Department, Chandigarh for creating an opportunity for the budding sports talent of the city at tender age through this event and its furtherance to elite level as per long term athlete development program envisaged by Ministry Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

He also shared the innovative vision of Government of India to develop sports across the nation in at the behest of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India as so many sports development schemes of GOI like Khelo India, Fit India movement and Yoga etc.  are  on the anvil and going to revolutionise the sports scenario PAN INDIA. 

Shri J.M Balamurugan, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Punjab, Shri KK Yadav, IAS, Secretary Sports, UT,Chandigarh, Shri Saurabh Mishra, IAS, SDM South, Chandigah, Shri Tejdeep Singh Saini, PCS, Director Sports, Shri Hardeep Singh Councillor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Dr Mahender Singh JDS, Sh Sarbjit Singh, President, CII, Northern Region, Sh Ravinder Singh, DSO were also present on the occasion.

The sports meet is comprising 16 sports disciplines viz. Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Boxing Basketball, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Wrestling in which 2403 young athletes will be vying for top honours at various sports centres of Sports Department Chandigarh across the city.  125 technical officials have been deputed for smooth conduct of the all the matches. 

1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders will be awarded Rs1500/-, 1000/- and 750/- respectively as cash prize.   The finals and closing ceremony of the sports meet will be held on 5th September 2019 at Sports Complex, Sector-7, Chandigarh. Shri Arun Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Home, Chandigarh Administratiion will be the Chief Guest at the valedictory function.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
