Chandigarh, 27th September 2019: In order to control the rising
prices of onion, the Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs
& Legal Metrology, Chandigarh has started “Low Price Stalls” to distribute
onions at controlled price at the five Community Centres from 26.09.2019.
Taking the initative further , the Department continuously on
the second day supplied Onions for public sale to different pockets of the city. Since the
response was good from the public on the first day , the quantity of onion to
be sold at different centres was almost
doubled.
Total 16 Quintal of onion were sold till 05:00 p.m. @ Rs. 32/-
per kg at all the following five designated Community Centres of U.T.,
Chandigarh located at:
1. M.H.C, Manimajra
2. Dhanas
3. Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran
4. Ramdarbar
5. Maloya
The department would continue to sell the onion at controlled
rate to provide respite to the general public from the soaring prices of onion
till the same comes under control. The whole process of selling the onions at
controlled prices for general public was successful and good response was
received from the masses.
Two Departmental mobile vans
were deputed for the sale
of onion in Burail and Daddumajra villages. It has been decided by the
Department to sell Onion on Saturday
also in its effort to normalise the rising prices of onion. It is expected that
the prices of the onion will come down within a day or two by this effort of
the Department.
