Administrator launches Forest & Wildlife Department Website and Logo at the Concluding day of Wildlife Week


Chandigarh, 24th October 2019: Wildlife week is observed during the first week of October all over the country, with the objective of raising awareness among masses for conservation of Wildlife and its habitat. The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh organized various programmes during the week to sensitize and generate awareness among the masses for the Protection and Conservation of Wildlife, Nature and Natural resources.  A concluding Function on Wildlife Week Celebration 2019 was organized  today  at Butterfly Park, Sector 26, Chandigarh wherein Shri V.P.Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest and Sh.Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh was the Guest of Honor.

The Administrator launched a ‘Logo of Department of Forests & Wildlife Chandigarh’. He also launched ‘Website of the department – www.chandigarhforest.gov.in

Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh informed that the Logo is designed with the basic concept of five elements of life, wherein Environment friendly green and the tree made in green represent Prithvi and Vayu besides representing nature. Calm and life-giving logical Blue representing Jal and Aakaash stands for the truth, trust and the serenity being presented by the forests. The national emblem representing the energy of fire exudes pride, power and courage telling that the entity is being handled by the government. Deer in white represents the wildlife and the peace that wildlife deserves. Two hands holding the logo unit connote that the entity needs support and care from all. He further informed that the Website of the Department will help the visitors/ tourists as well as citizens of Chandigarh to see the nature by clicking a mouse on the site.
During the function, the winners of various competitions held in different schools of UT Chandigarh during the Wildlife Week were felicitated by the Chief Guest. The Administrator also visited Titli Ghar where species of Butterflies have been seen.
In Painting Competition, Under Junior Wing Category, the First Prize was bagged by Miss Ustat Bhatia, Sacred Heart Sr.Sec. School, Sec.26, Chandigarh of Class VIII, second prize went to Miss Sneh Kumari of Class VIII of  Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec. 8-B, Chd and Miss Bhumika of Class VIII  of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec.39C, Chandigarh got the third prize. Under Senior Wing Category, the first prize was bagged by Miss Urvashi of Class XII of Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School, Sector 18, Chandigarh, second prize went to Mr. Nitin Kumar of Class XII of   Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec.33D, Chandigarh and Miss Ananya Thakur of Class IX of Bhavan Vidyalaya School, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh got the third prize.

 Under ‘Short Video on Air Pollution/Single Usage Plastic’, the First Prize was bagged by the students of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 37-B, Chandigarh, second prize went to the students of Carmel Convent School, Sector 9-B, Chandigarh and the students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr.Sec. Public School, Sec. 40-C, Chandigarh got the third prize.

Under ‘Single Use Plastic Ban’ Video Awareness Contest-2019 under School Category, the First Prize was bagged by the St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44D, Chandigarh, the second prize was bagged by Govt. Model Middle School, MHC, Manimajra, Chd and the 3rd prize was shared by Shivalik Public School, Sector 41-B, Chd & Govt. Model Sr.Sec. School MHC, Manimajra, Chandigarh got the third prize. Under ‘Single Use Plastic Ban’ Video Awareness Contest-2019 under College Category, the First Prize was bagged by Post Graduate Govt. College, Sector 46, Chandigarh, the second prize was bagged by Post Graduate Govt. College,  Sec-11, Chandigarh and the 3rd prize was bagged by Post Graduate Govt. College, Sec. 46, Chandigarh & MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A.
Shri V.P.Singh Badnore congratulated the prize winners and made an appeal to the children to show care and compassion for all forms of life and their conservation. He lauded the effort of the Department for making very sincere effort in connecting people with the much needed subject i.e. Environment. He showered the word praises for the Department of Forest & Wildlife for making substantial contribution in this direction. He stated that new website launched for Forest Department is a very citizen friendly approach.
Shri Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary (Environment & Forests), Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, UT Chandigarh, other senior officers of the Administration, Eco-Club Incharges, School Principals & Teachers were also present on this occasion.
