World Animal Day Celebrated in Chandigarh


Chandigarh, 4th October 2019: The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals celebrated the World Animal Day, an International day of action for Animal Rights and Welfare today at Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sector-38, Chandigarh. Sh. Mandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, U.T.-cum-President, SPCA was also present at the occasion.

World Animal Day is observed worldwide on this date every year in honor of St Francis of Assisi-an animal lover and patron saint for animals.  In this regard, the Animal Welfare activities were started a week ago as an endeavour of SPCA-Chandigarh with Human Awareness Camp at GCCBA, Sector 50, Chandigarh and culminated today with World Animal Day celebration at Sector-38 situated Animal Shelter of SPCA.

On this awareness drive week Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director-AH-cum-HGS, SPCA, Chandigarh and four Veterinary Officers of the Animal Husbandry department educated the audiences with an aim to bring a change in people’s perspective.  The students of Dev Samaj College, Sector 36, students of DAV Public School, Sector-8 and staff of SPCA and Department of Animal Husbandry participated in the awareness drive.  This event was aimed to raise the status of Animals and improved upon their welfare standards.

Apart from Humane Education programme,  SPCA, Chandigarh undertook a dog adoption campaign for stray and abandoned dogs.  In this a total of three dogs were adopted by the citizens.  Another 5 dogs which have recovered well after treatment at SPCA hospital were released back to their respective areas of habitation from where they were picked.

To sensitize the livestock owners of Milk Colony, Dhanas, a campaign was carried out by Field Inspector, SPCA with the help of volunteers.  In this campaign the five violators of Animal Welfare were duly challaned under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Act, 1960.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. The campaign was held for three days in which Day 1 was dedicated for Booth Round and Day 2 & 3 were planned for door to door visit to immunize all children of Chandigarh in this age group with Oral Polio drops. A total of 1, 00, 236 children were immunized with oral polio drops during pulse polio activity and 929 teams visited 2, 65, 042 Houses and immunized Children with oral polio drops on day 2 and 3. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
