Chandigarh,14th November,2019
: The Children’s Day was celebrated today at Le Corbusier Centre, Sector 19,
Madhya Marg with a series of activities organized in collaboration with Organic
Sharing, Chandigarh.
A unique exhibition of
stamps issued by the Postal department of India on Children's Day every year
since 1957 was held by Rakesh Walia- a keen and renowned philatelist. Children
were intrigued by the interesting stamps released through the years that
showcase the changing issues and themes in India. Mr. Walia informed the
students that a competition is held every year to choose the image for the
stamp and a first Cover is also released on Children’s day every year.
On the occasion, Deepika
Gandhi, Director of the Corbusier Centre briefed the students about the special
association of Jawahar Lal Nehru with Chandigarh as it was with his vision and
persistence that the city was created. She also gave the students a tour of the
Corbusier Centre telling them interesting facts about the creation of the city
and especially pointing out the many pictures showing Nehru’s visits to
Chandigarh while it was coming up. On being asked their wish for the city on
Children’s’ day the students came up with ideas ranging from cleanliness to
equal opportunities for all. Mr. Rahul Mahajan, Founder, Organic Sharing
encouraged the students to make sure that the wishes became reality by actively
working towards these goals and keeping the city clean and green.
A painting competition
for students on the theme of “Stop Child Labour” brought out the creative
talent of the students with many interesting posters rendered in vibrant hues.
The students highlighted the ills of child labour stressing the need for
education and skill development.
A photo exhibition by
photographer Deepak Arora on the theme 'Beauty of Chandigarh' was also held
showing the true splendor and capturing various facets of the city. The
children were shown photographs of the natural and built up heritage of the
city and encouraged to explore these facets of the city. These pictures
captured the essence of the city and showed the city in a new light to many
students who had not visited the Capitol Complex or the Rose Garden. The event
ended with a Prize distribution ceremony by Organic Sharing for students who
made the most expressive posters.
