Rail Under Bridge inaugurated at Manimajra Railway Crossing

Chandigarh, 11th November,2019: Smt Kirron Kher, Member Parliament  inaugurated Rail Under Bridge (RUB) at Manimajra railway crossing under 126 in the presence of Sh. Manoj Parida,Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh and other officers of UT Administration.
After the inauguration, the MP said that this project will bring relief for the residents of Manimajra. It will provide additional connectivity between Chandigarh and Panchkula and will also facilitate smooth movement of traffic between housing board Manimajra and Chandigarh.

Smt. Kher had laid the foundation stone of RUB on 14th August, 2017.   The RUB was the long-pending demand of residents as earlier they would remain stuck in jams for hours. With the construction of an RUB at Manimajra, the residents will no longer have to wait at the Railway Crossing for the train to pass. Till now, every time a train crossed, heavy traffic jams were witnessed on either side. The road on one side of the crossing is quite narrow. Once the gates of the crossing open, it takes time for the traffic flow to normalise.

The construction of RUB at level crossings 126-B has been completed with a cost of Rs. 7.25 Cr. This consists of share of Rs.2 Cr. from the Ministry of Railways and balance Rs. 5.25 Cr.  from Chandigarh Administration. The RUB consists of 5.50 Meter wide and 3.35 Meters of height passage each for up and down movement of the vehicles. The construction work has been completed in 2  years. The scope of the project consists of passage for up & down movement, construction of approaches, retaining walls, Road & Electrical works, shifting of utilities & road furniture work etc. There is a water drainage system to avoid waterlogging during rainy season.
