November 2019:Indian badminton players made India proud in the first Special
Olympics Asia Pacific Unified Badminton Championship held from 12-16th November
2019 at Bangkok, Thailand.
Tanveer and Sanyam as unified boys team won gold medal in
the category 16-21 years male D-2 group and Kalpana and Arpita as unified girls
team won silver medal in mixed female D-1 group. Tanveer and Kalpana are intellectually
disabled students of Government
Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Sector
31, Chandigarh. Prof. B.S. Chavan Director of GRIID, Prof Priti Arun Joint
Director of GRIID and Dr Vani Ratnam Principal of GRIID congratulated the
students and their sports coach, Ms. Sheetal Negi.
The Parents of the
medal winners expressed their happiness and gratitude to the coaches and
supporting staff.
The team members also
expressed its gratitude towards actor Sonu Sood for sponsoring the team for the
championship.
Mr.Victor R Vaz,
National Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharat and Mrs.Neelu Sarin, Area
Director , Chandigarh Chapter -Special Olympics also congratulated the players
and wished them luck for future success.
