November,2018.The eleventh Chandigarh National Crafts Mela ventured into day-4
attracting innumerable shoppers.Punjabi folk and pop singer Manmohan Waris
performed today.
Waris is the elder
brother of singer Kamal Heer and one of the most gifted singers in the
Punjabi genre. He entertained the audience with the numbers like raheen bakshda
tu kitte hue kasur dateya, aaja bhabhi, kitte kalli baike sochi ni and
mesmerized the audience with the number bachcheyan nu dasyo Punjab kinnu kende ne.
Waris is also known as
The King of Bhangra. He has given innumerable hit numbers. Chann di vargi, sir
utte tera haath, tasvir, kinna changa hunda, to name a few. He has sung for
many albums. Punjabi Virsa, Kudi Haseena, Faraar and Punjabi Reloaded among
others are his popular albums.
The popular products
like garments, fabric, bedsheets and wollens are quite sought after but the
stuff like cotton suits with Madhubani paintings, tussar cotton handwoven
sarees,Thanjavur paintings, Pashmina shawls and dress material are ahead by
grabbing the eye of female customers. The stalls offering fashion accessories,
scalfs and junk jewellery from Delhi and Chandigarh are doing good business
given to the trendy designs and style. The furniture from Uttar Pradesh and the
artefacts from Karnataka are worth attention.
Today's highlight
This year we have
representatives from Thailand. Stall no 28, 29 and 30 are selling cane bags,
hair clips, fridge magnets, ceramic, bamboo and paper wind chymes, slipons made
out of cotton fibre, jewellery boxes, souvenirs, wall decoratives, umbrellas
etc. The price of the products ranges from Rs.50 to 1200. One can also buy
garden decoration pieces made out of ceramic, cloth bags, wallets and dresses
for infants.
Shekhar Arora at Stall
no 38 brings Miracles of Feng Shui designed and made in Ludhiana. You can by
three legged frog, lovebirds, laughing Buddha, education tower, pyramids, wish
turtle, triple turtle, dragon and crystal turtle for good luck in money and
prosperity. Not to miss Fuk, Luk, Shau, the three gods of prosperity. The
products range from Rs. 50 to 550.
Food Court
The venue is serving
foods from different states of Northern and Western India. A stall from
Hyderabad offers exotic biryanis, besides there are popular foods like pizza,
golden corns, idli, vada, kathi rolls etc are being served.
Today's speciality
The delicious and
nutritious snacks from Godhara Gujarat are waiting to treat the tastebuds. A
variety of traditional Marathi food like methi gota, moong dal muthia, khandvi,
fafda, jalebi, khaman dhokla, dabeli, undeu thepla, kadi khichdi etc are hard
to resist.
Tarun from Godhara, who
runs Sawariya Bhel Pakodi Centre in his home town is ready to greet you and
give you the time of your life with myriad Gujarati foods at the food courts.
Amusement park
The amusement park has
a number of rides for all age groups. Children can enjoy camel rides, swings,
puppet dance and interactions with Behrupiyas from Rajasthan. Stalls of pop
corns, ice creams and candy floss are specially put for the kids.
The folk performances
Besides daily live
performances at the amusement park venue, folk dancers from different states
are giving daily stage performances. Natua from West Bengal, Srimor Natti from
Himachal Pradesh, Gudumbaja from Madhya Pradesh, Ghjisiyari from Uttarakhand,
Faag from Haryana, Pungacholam, Dholcholam from Manipur, Bhangra and Jindua
from Bhangra, Rathwa from Gujarat and Rouff from Kashmir enthralled the
audience during the day. The dancers again established the fact that India is
unique with different cultures and myriad art forms.
