Chandigarh, January 21, 2020:: 102749 no of children
vaccinated against the target of 92911 during the three day National
Immunization Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond, Zindagi Ki’ in UT Chandigarh
conducted from 19th – 21st January, 2020. Special emphasis was laid upon the
high risk/ vulnerable areas.
The volunteers did a commendable job going house to house and
vaccinating the children who were not brought to the booths on the first day.
Volunteers pasted the stickers of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ outside the houses
covered during the round. Their efforts and good coverage has been
documented by the World Health Organization (WHO) Monitors who have visited the
field especially the high risk/ vulnerable areas for the supervision and
monitoring purposes.
World Health Organization (WHO) monitors appreciated the
efforts of health workers. X’ houses generated during the round will be
covered in upcoming days to track the unimmunized children.
India was officially declared polio-free by the World Health
Organization in March 2014. Govt. of India is stressing upon 100% coverage of
immunization for which UT Chandigarh has already achieved it for Routine
Immunization, and also ensuring 100% Polio immunization as well to maintain
Polio free status.
Approximately 390 children were covered from 8 pm – 11:30 pm
in 2 days by Night Vigil teams under the innovative project “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR”.

work and motivation of all the health workers and volunteers who participated
in this campaign and thanked all the teams for their tireless efforts to make
the round a huge success. He also thanked the efforts extended by different
Colleges by giving Volunteers, Police Department by ensuring repeated
announcements of the pre recorded message sent by Health Department for the
awareness and deploying Police Officials in the night. Cooperation of the
residents at large has also been appreciated.
