Administrator Felicitates Winners of Khelo India Games 2020- Chandigarh Bags first position amongst UT’s with 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals
Chandigarh, 29th
January 2020: Sh. V P Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and
Administrator, UT Chandigarh felicitated the winners of Khelo India Games 2020
today at UT Secretariat in the presence of Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the
Administrator and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration. The Khelo India games were held at Guwahati
from 9th to 22nd Jan 2020 and were organized by Khelo India, Ministry of Sports
and Youth Affairs. Chandigarh has bagged first rank amongst Union Territories
and has got overall 16th rank in medal tally.
The quarter finalist
players/teams and medal winners of their respective sport, i.e. the total of
contingent of 198 players attended the Khelo India Games. Chandigarh has won
total 17 medals with a count of 6 Gold medals in various sports like Archery,
Hockey, Boxing, Judo and weightlifting, two Silver medals in Boxing and Judo
and nine Bronze medals in Judo, Kabaddi, Boxing, Cycling, Lawn Ball, and Weight
Lifting.
The Administrator
applauded the winners for their excellent performance at the Khelo India Games
2020, and cited that Administration is extremely proud to have such outstanding
talent who has brought recognition at National front. He also added that
Chandigarh is providing the world class sports facilities to the enthusiasts,
so that they can hone their skills and represent the city in a befitting
manner.
The Administrator also
held a meeting with the officials of Administration and took some major
decisions. Sh. VP Singh Badnore has given in principal approval for the
upgradation of GMSH 16 as Medical College. The Chandigarh Administration will
forward a proposal for 50 MBBS seats at first instance to Medical Council of
India. Initially the basic infrastructure of Government Medical College &
Hospital, Sector 32 will be used, whereas 15 acres additional land will be
identified and earmarked for expansion of the College.
Further the officials
of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking tabled the financial performance of
CTU. The Undertaking has witnessed an
increase in the overall revenue of 10.2 crores as compared to the last year.
The Administrator has
approved the proposal for levy of Cow Fee on the sale of six items.
The concerned
departments of Chandigarh Administration will collect the Cow Fee and transfer
the same to Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. It will come into force at start
of the next financial year i.e. 1st April, 2020.
