Celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week 20th-26th January, 2020 to celebrate National Girl Child Day (24th January 2020)

January,2020.To create awareness, sensitise people and engage community across
UT, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week is being celebrated from 20th-26th January,
2020 to celebrate National Girl Child Day on 24th January, 2020 under Beti
Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme. This week is being celebrated to commemorate 5th
Anniversary of this scheme.
Various activities have
been undertaken for the awareness of the masses during the weeklong campaign by
different departments of Chandigarh Administration. The Department of Social
Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration has organised
six interaction-cum-awareness sessions on Gender Sensitisation with the
community across different places of UT. The different locations of UT across
which these sessions have been organised are Palsora, Mauli Colony, Maul
Village, Sector 32 and Sector 41. Gender discrimination, Gender
Inequalities and their social causes have been discussed and their impact on
sex-ratio as well as on the health of women has been pointed out. The outlook
of the community members about gender and gender related issues have been
looked into. Women have opened up about the discrimination which they either
face or see around them. Appropriate information regarding Sukanya Samridhi
Yojana, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme along with Women centric welfare schemes
has been extended in the public sphere for wider awareness of the masses.
"BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO" pledge has been taken by the community
members to protect and educate girl children along with a commitment to strive
for an environment which is conducive for the overall well being of the girls
and women. These lectures have been delivered by Mahila Shakti Kendra team to
aware and sensitise the masses.
Under this Celebration,
the Department of Health, Chandigarh Administration has administered BBBP oath
at all health facilities to celebrate the BBBP Week. Public at large along with
the staff of Department of Health pledged to save and educate the girl child to
ensure a safer and brighter tomorrow.
There’s a powerful
saying, “When you educate a man, you educate a man but when you educate a
woman, you educate a generation”. This is because of the benefits of educating
girls permeates the entire family and have far-reaching impacts within the
entire society. There has been an active participation of boys and girls from
all government as well as private schools to celebrate BBBP week. Department of
Education, Chandigarh Administration has conducted poster making and essay
writing competitions at all schools of UT.
Municipal Corporation
Chandigarh has organised a camp at Daria with members of SHGs and conducted a
lecture on prevention and education of girl children. The role of women to
empower girl children has been discussed elaborately.
SLSA has conducted
lectures in GHS Sector 53, GMSS Kaimbwala, St. Peters School Sector 37, St.
Joseph School, Shivalik School, GSSS Dhanas Village and GSSS Sarangpur by
addressing issues and challenges faced by girls in particular and children in
general. The legal experts including Mr. Mahavir Singh, Additional District
Sessions Judge have informed students as well as teachers about legal redressal
mechanisms and laws to address these issues while celebrating BBBP week. Pledge
has also been administered at all these places.
Department of Police
has also conducted awareness camp at village Kajheri to celebrate BBBP Week.
