Celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week 20th-26th January, 2020 to celebrate National Girl Child Day (24th January 2020)

January,2020: A State Level Function was organized at Tagore Theatre to
celebrate the National Girl Child Day, as a part of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti
Padhao’ week in Chandigarh. Chief guest for the occasion was Governor of Punjab
and Administrator of Chandigarh Sh. VP Singh Badnore. The function was also
attended by Advisor to the Administrator Sh. Manoj Parida and Home Secretary
Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta. The function was organized in convergence with Department
of Social Welfare, Department of Health and Department of Education.
The Administrator
congratulated all the departments and appreciated the work of the Anganwadi
workers in Chandigarh. Chandigarh is a model city which has produced
outstanding women such as Neerja Bhanot and Kalpana Chawla. He also emphasized
that this message should be taken to the peripherial villages of Chandigarh.
The Advisor exhorted the people of Chandigarh to whole heartedly become a part
of this campaign to protect and promote our girls.
The Administrator
recalled the initiatives started by him in Rajasthan in the late 1970s. He
opined how this subject is extremely close to his heart and how he continues to
support every department which takes initiatives in this direction. He lauded
the Government of India and the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister since
2015, whereby so many initiatives have been taken under the BBBP. This has led
to many more opportunities for girls and women, and aided in creating an
environment where they can develop in accordance with their capabilities. He
cited various examples of success stories. One of them was the predominance
selection of women amongst the new MBBS doctors in the State of Punjab.
Children from various
government schools performed skit, dance and songs to spread the message of
protecting the girl child. Anganwadi workers and ANMs from Chandigarh also took
part in the function. Girls who have done well in the 12th class exams and
sports activities were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 4000 each. ANMs and Anganwadi
workers who have shown extra commitment towards saving the girl child were also
honored.
