State Level function on  10th National Voters’ Day


Chandigarh, 25th January 2020: Election Department, U.T., Chandigarh celebrated the State Level function on  10th National Voters’ Day today at Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh. The theme of National Voter’s Day this year is “Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy”. Shri. Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator was the Chief Guest at the State Level Function. Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Shri Mandip Singh Brar, IAS Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Shri. Jagjit Singh and Electoral Officers of Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency were present at the State Level National Voters’ Day function.

During the National Voters’ Day function, Students of the PG. Govt. College for Girls presented a colorful cultural programme. At this function, the public and the officers present also took the Pledge for the faith in Democracy and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement. Shri Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Additional Chief Electoral Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, stated that for all the eligible voters, who have attained the age of 18 years as on 1st January, 2020 a campaign was carried out from 16th December to 16th January, 2020. Before that a EVP programme was launched by the Election Commission of India on 1st Sept, 2019 in which all the electors verified their votes. A short film “Glimpses of General Elections 2019” was also screened during the function.

The Chief Guest felicitated the young first time voters by distributing the newly prepared Electors Photo Identity Cards.  He also awarded the winners of the Debate and Essay writing competitions and also outstanding performers during General Elections 2019 and EVP and ELC.  He congratulated all citizens, especially the newly enrolled voters, on this historic occasion of the 10th National Voters’ Day  and exhorted the young voters to cast their vote in the next Elections.

Other than this, 10th National Voters Day was also celebrated at the Sub Division Level and all 599 polling stations in Union Territory, Chandigarh.  Further all the Senior Secondary Schools  and Colleges U.T Celebrated National Voter’s Days.
