Deputy Commissioner convenes meeting to tackle noise pollution


Chandigarh, February 11:To Tackle the Noise pollution, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS,  Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh today convened a meeting of all SDMs along with all stakeholder departments at his office. Issues with respect to parameters of sound pollution in different zones of City was discussed at length.

The DC emphasized that all the departments must strive to make sure that the level of sound is in complete conformity with the parameters laid down by the Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court while disposing the CWP No 6213 of 2016 (O&M).

 Further, the DC said that as per the directions of the court, it is to be ensured that no loudspeaker or Public Address System shall be used by any person including religious bodies in Temples, Mosques and Gurudwaras without written permission of the even during day time and that too by getting an undertaking that noise level would not exceed permissible level.

Furthermore, no loudspeaker, Public Address System, Musical Instrument and Sound Amplifier are to be played during the night time except in auditoriums, conference rooms, community halls, banquet halls in accordance within the norms laid down under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. It would also be ensured that loud speakers or Public Address Systems are not used between 10 pm to 6 am except between 10 pm to 12 midnight during any cultural and religious occasion of a limited duration not exceeding 15 days during a calendar year . The peripheral noise level of a privately owned sound system or sound producing instrument would not be beyond permissible level at the boundary of a private place.

Also, no horn shall be blown in silence zones or during the night time between 10 pm to 6 am in a residential area except during public emergency.

No person is to be issued firearms license who has not completed the age of 21 years and no person shall carry firearm to a religious/marriage processions, fair or other public assemblage or within the campus of an educational institution.

The DC also directed that the concerned SDM(East) and DSP(East) will specifically patrol the areas around Cafes, Pubs and  Restaurants of Sector 7  and will ensure that the noise levels are not beyond permissible limit.

The DC said that the police and all the SDM's and Police must ensure the compliance of the directions passed by the court and visible impact on ground should be seen in next 10 days.

Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh, 4 th   April, 2017:   Activities conducted for three days i.e. from 2nd – 4th April, 2017 during Pulse Polio Campaign ‘Do Boond Zindgi Ki’ to win the war of eradicating Polio from the society and to immunize the children in the age group of 0-5 Years with Oral Polio Drops were successfully completed today. “Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote".
