Poshan Pakhwada to begin from 8th March



Chandigarh, 6th March 2020:The Secretary of Social Welfare, Sh. Yashpal Garg presided over a meeting in the presence of Director of Social Welfare, Smt. Navjot Kaur and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration regarding the activities to be carried out during the 2nd Anniversary celebration of  Poshan Pakhwada 2020. As per the Ministry of women and child development it will be celebrated from 8th march 2020 to 22nd march 2020.

 During the meeting Director Social Welfare covered the focus activities to be done by various departments. The main focus of this years celebration is on male engagement in Poshan Abhiyan to improve nutritional levels of in consumption. It was informed that the Poshan Anthem and Poshan pledge were to be widely spread among the population by conducting activities.

Department of Social Welfare would be planning programs for SAM children, enhancing home visit outreach, preparing poshan diet calenders. Municipal Corporation was told to use Self Help Groups in order to promote breastfeeding and also conduct Poshan meetings in the community to spread the message.

 Furthermore, Department of Public Health would be conducting drive for provision of drinking water at Anganwadi Centres and deploy Poshanaagrahis on the lines of Swachhagrahi. Importance and Development of kitchen gardens will be promoted and the Horticulture department was told to develop them in angadwadi centres. D2( Defeat Diarrhea) and T3 (Test, Treat, Talk anaemia prevention and management) campaigns will  be conducted by Department of Health and Family Welfare.

 Yoga Camps would be planned by the AYUSH Department and Department of School Education. Additionally, awareness programmes on Nutrition through nukkadnataks, plays and puppet shows will be conducted. Cycle Rallies would be planned keeping in mind the Spread of Corona Virus safety.

 Poshan Abhiyaan is a scheme for holistic nourishment which was launched by Prime Minister on 8th March,2018. It aims to reduce malnutrition in a phased manner through life cycle concept, by adopting synergized and result oriented approach. It goals covers children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in a time bound manner.
