Chandigarh, 27th
February 2020: A meeting of the Environment Standing Committee of
Administrator’s Advisory Council was held today at Paryavaran Bhawan,
Chandigarh under the Chairmanship of Sh.Pawan Kumar Bansal, Ex-Member of
Parliament, Chandigarh wherein detailed discussion on various environmental
issues such as Waste Management, Tertiary Treated water, Noise Pollution, Air
Quality, Transportation, Free flow of traffic, Eco-sensitive zone around Sukhna
Wildlife Sanctuary, Protecting the Choes, Securing & enhancing the value of
existing green/ open spaces & strict implementation of ban on polythene/
plastic carry bags, was held.
The Officers from the
concerned departments were present to update the committee with the latest
action taken on the above points. The committee showed its concern over
the issue of Solid Waste Management, functioning of STP, proper maintenance and
upkeep of the cycle tracks laid in the city and Engineering Department has been
asked to repair the cycle tracks wherever required. The issue regarding
rising noise level in the city especially during marriages was also deliberated
and Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh has been asked to make clear mention
regarding noise level while granting permission. It was also decided to
organize Workshops for employees of Municipal Corporation to further strengthen
the monitoring mechanism on usage of single use plastic in the city. The
Chairman appreciated the efforts of all the departments and urged everyone to
work hard to make Chandigarh a clean & beautiful place to live in.
