It has come to the
notice that some of the restaurants, hotels and eateries operating within the
Union Territory of Chandigarh are charging 18% instead of 5% GST on the amount
of the food items/food bills. Charging more than the maximum retail price (MRP)
attracts the provisions of Legal Metrology Act.
To report any unethical practices such as collecting tax on
products/services that are GST-free, charging GST over and above the defined
rate, over-charging over the MRP, please lodge a complaint with the Consumer
Disputes Redressal Forum, Plot No.5-B, Sector 19-B, Madhya Marg, U.T.,
Chandigarh and also file a complaint on the official website of Central Board
of Indirect Taxes and Customs (www.cbic-gst.gov.in) or call on toll-free number
1800-1200-232 and can also call on the National Consumer Helpline Toll Free
Number 1800-114000/14404. The consumer
can also call to seek information, advice or guidance relating to his/her
queries and complaints on Consumer Helpline Number of the department of Food
& Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, UT Chandigarh i.e.
