COVID 19 WAR ROOM DIRECTIONS PRESS RELEASE


Chandigarh, 10th July, 2020: Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. VP Singh Badnore today presided over Daily War Room meeting.  The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Arun Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home), Sh. Sanjay Beniwal, Director General of Police, Sh. Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Finance Secretary, Sh. KK Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh at Punjab Raj Bhawan, Deputy Commissioners of Mohali & Panchkula, Director-PGIMER, Director Health Services and Director Principal, GMCH through Video Conferencing.

WAR ROOM DIRECTIONS

1.         Dr. Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER stated that out of 445 samples tested, 29 were found positive.  The samples tested were 199 from Chandigarh, 176 from Punjab and 70 from Ladakh. Dr. BS Chavan, Director Principal, GMCH stated that out of 144 samples tested by GMCH, 08 were found positive.  Dr. G. Dewan, Director Health Services stated that they have started a fresh house-to-house survey of entire Union Territory for detecting asymptomatic cases.  As a first step, Sector 41 is getting covered.  14 teams with doctors and para-medical officials will cover the entire sector comprising 5,000 household.

2.         Deputy Commissioner, Mohali stated that they have 76 active cases.  Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula stated that they have 22 active cases. 

            The Administrator advised them to intensify checking on the borders, so that infection could be detected and medically treated.


3.         The Administrator expressed concern that many residents are not taking the threat of corona seriously and are violating the guidelines issued.  He stated that people must stay indoors and come out only when absolutely necessary.  The residents must wear masks at public places and strictly follow social distancing norms.  The Administrator warned that, if necessary, lockdown will again be imposed, especially on weekends to contain spread of infection.

4.         The Administrator directed Director General of Police to ensure that curfew from 10:00 PM to 05:00 AM is strictly enforced.  It was also directed that all vehicles, found moving during curfew hours will be seized by the police, unless the driver is able to prove that it was on essential duty.


5.         The Administrator directed Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh to enhance surprise checks in parks/places, markets etc. to penalize the persons not following social distancing or not wearing masks.


6.         The Administrator ordered that PGIMER Director must hold a meeting immediately with Director Health Services of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh to discuss and finalize a protocol for admission of patients coming from other states, particularly when facilities for treating such patients are locally available.  The Administrator clarified that PGIMER, being a Premier Central Institute of Government of India, the patients of any state of India cannot be denied treatment.
