WHO representative presented Report on fight against corona in Chandigarh

The WHO Representative, Dr. Srinivasan Selvamani called on Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT today at Punjab Raj Bhawan and presented his report on fight against corona in Chandigarh.  In this detailed report, he appreciated the timely action of Chandigarh Administration in containing spread of infection in Bapu Dham Colony.  WHO Representative specifically appreciated strict Perimeter Control, setting up of Rapid Response Teams and involvement of Civil Defence as a part of containment strategy.  The efforts of the Administration for Aggressive Contact Tracing and Quarantine of Contacts was cited as a best practice which could be imitated by other States and UTs.

Dr. Srinivasan Selvamani appreciated the quick action of Health Department in setting up a local Dispensary, which was opened round-the-clock for screening the total population of Bapu Dham.  He appreciated the intensive sanitization operation done by Municipal Corporation.  The report praised Deputy Commissioner for involving volunteers to do counseling, motivation.  They acted as a link between the community and the Administration.  The WHO Representative appreciated the success of Administration in ensuring regular supply of essential commodities including milk, vegetables at door-steps.  Another innovation was availability of mobile ATM vans and supply of medicines through Rogi Kalayan Samiti.  The efforts of Municipal Corporation in garbage collection despite risk to the field staff was lauded.  Another good practice cited has been Community Engagement and Psycho-Social Support to the local population in Bapu Dham Colony through Social Welfare Experts, Community Radio and whatsapp messages.  The use of mass-communication medium to spread awareness was a model for the entire country.    The WHO Report appreciated Chandigarh Administration, particularly the field staff in successful containing Bapu Dham, what could have become a major disaster in the city.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
