VC with Labour Reforms, Govt. of India

Chandigarh, 31st July 2020: A Video Conference was held under the Chairmanship of Addl. Secretary (UT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India regarding Labour Reforms in Union Territory, Chandigarh. The said VC was attended by Sh. Ajoy Kumar Sinha, IAS, Secretary Labour, Chandigarh Administration, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Labour Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Jagjit Singh, PCS, Joint Secretary (Labour) and Sh. Varun Beniwal, Assistant Labour Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh.

​​Upon the directions of the Govt. of India, the Chandigarh Administration has recently undertaken many labour reforms such as introduction of the concept of Fixed Term Employment, Self Certification Scheme for the benefit of factories and shops, introduction of the new Transparent Inspection Policy - 2020, enhancement of the working hours of workers in factories from 8 to 12 hours in a day & 72 hours in a week under the Factories Act, 1948, exemption given to shops to open on all days in a week etc.

Apart from these reforms, 09 services provided in the offline mode by Labour Department, UT Chandigarh w.r.t. registration/renewal/amendment of licenses granted under the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, the Contract Labour (R&A) Act, 1970 and under the Factories Act, 1948 have started been provided online at labour.chd.gov.in through a Single Window System.

​​In the Video Conference, the Addl. Secretary (UT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India appreciated the efforts of Chandigarh Administration for the swift manner in which these labour reforms were undertaken and completed on time, thereby benefitting both workers and industry.

“Vote for Healthy Democracy” Campaign

Chandigarh, 18th March, 2019: Taking the “Vote for Healthy Democracy” campaign forward to motivate citizens to use their Right to Vote during the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections of Chandigarh, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh today launched a stamp with the message of "Voting is your Right, Please Cast your Vote". The stamp will be included on all the OPD cards of the patients who visit the hospital.  This initiative is a part of the drive undertaken by Medical Community to motivate more and more people to participate and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
